September 2023 Meeting
In September the discussed the current monthly meetings and how they could be improved:
Positives of current meetings:
- Great time to have conversations and share experiences.
- General Aviation (GA) folks get some flying done.
Negatives of current meetings:
- Airliner pilots are not able to bring their simulators due to complexity.
- Meetings would benefit from more structure.
- What are our collective goals?
Enhancements we could make to our meetings:
- Have topics for each month.
- Allow airliner pilots to bring laptops or computers on Sundays.
- Have goals or objectives we’re collectively working towards.
- Once a year, have a relaxed AGM to plan the next 12 months.
Future goals for the group:
- Grow the membership.
- Be more established and recognized as a group.
- Partner with Aerospace Bristol.
- More structure or less structure?
- More suitable venue?
Ideas for future meetings:
- Guest & visiting speakers.
- Agree on topics for some meetings: Weather, Navigation and charts, ATC, Flight Operations, Hardware & interfacing, New products, VR, Scenery design, AI Traffic, Cockpit building, Online Flying, Multi-playering, Flight Planning, mobile phone apps/EFBs, mobile flight simulators.
- Initiatives and collective projects: Working with Aerospace Bristol on something, creating a flying video, updating the website or BFSG wiki, visiting full motion simulators, organizing an open day or the design of a BFSG exhibition stand, carrying out product reviews of new aircraft, scenery, addons.
- Buying some equipment: Couple of second-hand laptops or desktops for the airliner pilots to use.
- Formation Flying Practice.
- Watching videos, presentations, trailers.
- Regular agenda: Briefing on upcoming flights for the next 4 weeks, Flight Simulator news round-up.
- Second Sunday of each month a Zoom call to agree that month’s agenda.
Do we want a committee that takes more ownership and responsibility for the agenda and progress of the group?
- Agenda planning, event attendance, social.
