BFSG Summer Open Day 2026…
For the third year running, BFSG will open its doors to the public on Sunday 28th June 2026. Our Summer Open Day provides an opportunity for those interested in joining the group to chat to members, or just learn more about home flight simulation and see various equipment in action.
You can come and try our landing challenge; can you get the highest score when attempting to land a light aircraft at the original Bristol Filton airfield (before it closed, obviously!)
We welcome everybody and hope to see you there!
- DATE: 28th June 2026
- TIME: 11am to 4pm
- WHERE: Making Studio, Aerospace Bristol (look for our pop-up banner in the main entrance)
- COST: FREE, but we recommend an Aerospace Bristol entry ticket so you can enjoy the rest of the museum and all it has to offer.
Welcome to the Bristol Flight Simulation Group! Also simply known as BFSG, the group is a collection of like-minded individuals who enjoy flight simulation, virtual flying and aviation related topics. By working together, the group can achieve these aims and create a supportive and engaging environment for all members.
Our aim is to enable flight simulator enthusiasts to enjoy this hobby and to allow them to learn and share their knowledge about the many aspects of a wide range of flight simulation aspects together with the software and hardware available to enhance them.

Once a month (see our monthly meetings section) the group meets and uses their personal computers and laptops to fly together on flight simulators to:
- Simulate real-world flying scenarios and gain experience in a safe and controlled environment.
- Improve flying skills by practising takeoffs, landings, and other manoeuvres.
- Build camaraderie and foster a sense of community among its members by sharing knowledge, tips, and tricks.
- Explore new technologies, innovations, software and hardware in the field of flight simulation.
Twice a week we have online, virtual flying sessions (see our virtual flying section). Generally we fly General Aviation on Tuesday evenings and Airliners on Thursdays evenings.
Our virtual flying uses all the major flight simulation software:
- Laminar Research X-Plane 11 and X-Plane 12: The simulator is known for its realistic flight dynamics.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024: The 2024 version of the simulator was released in November 2024 and is known for its stunning graphics. It features a wide range of aircraft and airports, and has received positive reviews for its attention to detail.
- Lockheed Martin Prepar3D Version 5 or Version 6: Prepar3D is a professional-grade flight simulator that is used by pilots and aviation professionals for training purposes. It is known for its advanced features and realistic flight dynamics.
- Eagle Dynamics Digital Combat Simulator (DCS): a study-level military standalone simulator.

We seek to achieve our aim through different activities. Our monthly meetings – held at the Aerospace Bristol museum – attract a host of people with expertise and interests that span across the flight simulation spectrum. Our weekly online fly-ins attract a wider audience and BFSG has groups that cater for both general aviation and commercial airline operations.
